Big news in the asinine HD format war: Wal-Mart has stepped in and ordered 2 million HD DVD players from China, and they're planning to sell them for $300 a pop next year. That's far cheaper than the lowest-priced Blu-ray player, and it stands to be a huge victory for the HD DVD camp.
Since the players won't be hitting Wal-Mart shelves 'til 2008, the Blu-ray folks have some time to scramble and get players out there to match this price. Boy, aren't format wars fun? Personally, I wouldn't get an HD-disc player until there's a clear winner or a dual-format player hits the sub-$500 mark, but I know not all of you have such monk-like patience.
One thing that'll be interesting is to see how this affects the sales of current HD DVD players out there. Will people hold off on buying one until these cheapo models hit, causing the HD DVD market to take a nosedive before skyrocketing next year? It'll be interesting to see.

I don't think it's HD DVD here is a chunk from the original chinese site this came from.
"The chairman said Deng Hongmo Kyrgyzstan, high-resolution, "Blue HD DVD" traverse successfully developed, This year the United States WALMART immediately received orders for two million Taiwan, It is expected that the end of next year the output value reaching NT 10.1 billion. "
This is a translation of chinese. I belive they are calling blue-ray "blue HD DVD"
So the article might be totaly wrong.
