Samsung is joining LG on the high road above the HD format war, choosing to stop taking sides and releasing a player that can handle both Blu-ray and HD DVD. Samsung's Duo HD player (BD-UP5000) will be able to fully support both formats, unlike LG's BH100 which cannot handle all of HD DVDs interactive features.

It's great to see another large company creating a product that will allow the format war to be fought not by consumers, but by the shortsighted companies that started this dumb war in the first place. There's no word on pricing for the BD-UP5000 as of yet, but it should be out by the end of this year. — Adam Frucci
