Samsung thinks outside the box with new concept PCs

Samsung_1.jpg

Samsung recently showed off three completely crazy concept PC designs, computers that have about a zero percent chance of ever hitting store shelves but show off the fact that Samsung has some creative designers on their payroll.

First off there's the above computer, looking somewhat like a witch's hat. The second, perhaps the strangest of the bunch, looks like a pretty normal PC except for the fact that it's perched on a treelike stand and has a pull cord hanging from underneath it. The point of that design is anyone's guess. The third consists of a keyboard under a strange tray with three balls sitting on the top, their purpose shrouded in mystery. Hit the jump for the photos of the latter two designs and leave any guesses as to what the hell the point of these crazy designs might be in the comments.

Looks like the first one is supposed to be like a coat hangar/lamp stand concept? That's what I first thought of anyway. The second made me think maybe being able to work in bed or something like that?

Intel still has their "People's Choice" PC design competition going on. Go to http://intelchallenge.com/category/designs/?sel=28#design and vote for the BICOM HMS7 (I designed this one).

I'd like to think the swivel cone on the first one is a projector, to remove the need for a screen.

The middle one looks more like some sort of multi-media hub, since the little branch seems to have controls on it (volume?). Why it has a pull-cord and what looks like a red-rimmed power button on top, I'm not sure.

The third looks like a deisgn for a tangible interface. You drop the balls in different dimples to trigger different things, and then fiddle with the controls on them.

Since the keyboard on the first looks unusable, and the second just looks like a mac-mini on a stick, I prefer the third.

It looks really sleak and state of the art. When will be available? gozino.net

Agreed w/above. The first one's gotta be a projector. Although now I'm thinking maybe thats a vent tube that just blows hot air.

Second I think is their designer's idea of "a computer that's as easy to use as a lamp". The pull string probably changes the "mode" spoken of on the unit. Maybe you could hang your mouse (or yourself for owning that thing) on the hook.

Clearly the 3 balls serve the same purpose as the 3 seashells. Undoubtedly some sorta hygeine thing.

I think all of these are showing just the cpu and on 1 and 3 a keyboard. Those "balls" on 3 are the controls for the cpu. Clearly marked and obviously stationary. But I do like the way you think ukronin, that is a much neater and totally doable idea. Light years ahead of their own. Rock on man!
