NASCAR's giant treadmill

haas_racing_nascar_treadmill.jpg

When testing NASCAR's race cars, sometimes you need more than just a wind tunnel. After all, a mere wind tunnel can't take into account the effects of the tires as they roll across a flat surface. That's why the brains behind everyone's favorite redneck sport have built this absolutely gigantic treadmill. You thought the ones they have at your local gym were big? Get a load of this thing.

The track is a 1mm thick steel belt that can roll at up to 180 mph. The whole thing is designed with sensors to keep track of each wheel and to give the mechanics and engineers a complete look at what's happening to the car as it's driving. Just be careful not to brake while driving on this thing, as getting flung off the back doesn't seem like it would be a whole lot of fun.

Very scary!... The other pic I saw had a guy at a computer on the front driver side floor and I wouldn't wanna be that close... Maybe in another protected room but not there...
