China has chosen someone to design the torch for the upcoming 2008 Olympics, and it's someone you might not expect. It's Lenovo, the company that makes the ThinkPads that IBM used to make. It seems kind of strange for a computer manufacturer to start designing torches of all things, but their design is actually pretty neat. I guess it just goes to show that you can't judge a book by its cover, or something.
The curly design is actually based on the traditional Chinese representation of clouds, so it's full of symbolism that ignorant, cultureless Americans won't get. But that doesn't matter, these are China's games. So keep your eyes peeled for these next year when the media frenzy kicks in in full effect, and you'll have a really lame piece of trivia to bring up with your friends.
