Forced ringtones are the worst cell-phone gimmick ever

teenphone-thumb.jpgIn what's sure to be one of the most annoying cell-phone developments since… well, ever, a California company has created a product that will allow people to override their friends' ringtones with ones of their own. So even if you have your ringtone set to a tasteful piece of classical music, your idiot college roommate could call you and make your phone blast "Hot for Teacher."

I can't imagine this taking off without giving people the option to not let this happen. In fact, what's more likely is that you'll have to approve individuals to be able to override your ringtone, which kind of neuters the whole idea. I mean, what's the fun of this service if you can't force your dad's phone to play "I Like Big Butts" when you call?

How would you know that it was your phone ringing if other people could change the ringtone at will? If I heard "A Horse with No Name", I would assume it was coming from someone else, not that I had a call.

Wow Adam Frucci, this device isn't designed as a prank gimmick. It's a magic trick, showing that you can intercept a signal in the phone. Read everything through about Ringtone by Adam Grace, and not blast it and make it seem like a ridiculous little contraption. People like you really anger me. And it's from ellusionist.com for whoever asked where it's from. $40.
