Apple to try subscription music service?

lilitunes.jpgRumors are flying around the Internet about Apple considering adding a subscription service to their iTunes Music Store. That would mean those of you out there who don't feel like dropping $.99 per track would be able to pay a flat monthly fee to download as much as you wanted. Of course, if you stopped paying said fee you would lose all that precious music, but thems the breaks.

How likely is this to actually happen? Not very, if you ask me. Apple has always said they will not support a subscription service, and with their move to DRM-free music this doesn't exactly seem like the most logical time for them to make the plunge. Chalk this one up to more overeager speculators, and feel free to send your money to someone else, such as Rhapsody, if you want to try the subscription thing.

I really hope they come out with a subscription service. Especially for iTunes TV shows.

I'm a big music fan, and would probably use a music subscription. But I would definitely get an iTunes TV subscription. I would love to cancel my cable subscription.

I've been reading some essays by Shelly Palmer, over on Media 3.0. He's got an especially interesting one that applies to iTunes TV, and internet TV in general -- called "Over the Top." It's all about this transition we're undergoing.

Definitely worth reading.
