Ultrathin cooling plates get laptops to chill out

As PCs get faster and faster, it means their insides have to run hotter and hotter. Liquid-based cooling is a great idea for desktops, but what about that gaming notebook that you've customized to overclock? To prevent it from melting in your lap (or worse), you could turn to a cooling technology from a company called Celsia.

Celsia's NanoSpreaders are plate-shaped cooling devices that are just 1 millimeter thin. A layer of water goes next to the heat source, which vaporizes it into steam. The steam is transported through "nanochannels" to the outer layers where it dissipates the heat and condenses back to water. Surface tension is the main driving force of the system, so it's totally passive and will work in any orientation. Cool enough, just as long as the plate comes in white to match my MacBook.
