National Japan is releasing this slick-looking light, called the Lifter Light, to the general public. In addition to it being pretty cool looking, it has the bonus feature of being able to raise or lower via remote control. If you feel like having it hovering right over your head, go for it. If you'd rather have a softer, more diffuse glow, raise it on up. The world is your oyster!

Sure, for $810 this thing is very, very expensive, but I think it's pretty rad. It looks like it wouldn't be out of place on the set of Blade Runner, which is really the only qualification something needs to get approval for installation in my apartment. You should see the 50-foot-high McDonalds ad I have in here!
