HTC Advantage makes us actually want a UMPC

htcadvantage.jpg

Could this be the first Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC) that gets the balance of portability and power right? While past UMPCs have been far from impressive, the HTC Advantage looks like a pretty sweet little device.

It's got a generous, 5-inch touchscreen that you can use to control the device, but if you're itching for a more traditional keyboard input method, there's a full QWERTY keyboard attached magnetically (oooh, magnets!). Inside, there's an 8GB hard drive loaded up with Windows Mobile 6, 256MB of RAM, GPS, and Quad-band, 3G, and WiFi web connectivity. The best part is that it crams all this goodness into a package that, while it might not fit in your jeans pocket, is a heck of a lot more portable than a full-sized laptop. Look for it to hit our shores sometime in the third quarter of this year.

A 7 inch touchscreen @ 1024 x 768 resolution LED backlighting, >2.0Ghz dual core 2 cpu or better, Windows XP or Vista, 3 gb RAM, 120 gb hard drive (or solid state), DVD/CD burner, 4 USB ports, firewire, PCMCIA slot, 8 hour battery life. That's what I would call a REAL UMPC and if the cost was under $1000. Then UMPCs would really sell.

I don't like these Windows Mobile type toys, most people don't.
