Boeing putting fuel cells in an airplane

fuel_cell_plane.jpg

Boeing, everyone's favorite airplane manufacturer, is hopping on the fuel-cell bandwagon. Not for airplanes that you or I will get a chance to fly on, but rather for a military plane. This will be the first airplane ever that's powered solely using fuel cells, with no internal combustion engine of any kind involved.

Boeing doesn't think fuel-cell technology will ever power commercial aircraft, but the company does think it has the potential to power smaller airplanes and unmanned craft. Hey, do what you can, Boeing. Any fuel-cell application is cool with us, and hopefully the research you're doing will lead to better uses of fuel cells in other vehicles.
