Oh, Microsoft — why are you always late to the game against Apple? First the iPod beat the snot out of the Zune in the retail world. Now, on the heels of the Apple iPhone announcement, comes word of an FCC filing for what may be a Zune phone. A little late to the party, don't you think?
The FCC filing reveals information on a Microsoft wireless device that uses OFDM, "a technology that can be used to route digital TV and voice calls among devices." Beyond the filing report, sources tell CrunchGear this phone would be "WiMax-enabled," might be announced "before March 17" and hit stores "a full month before the iPhone." The rumors don't stop there: the new gadget could include wireless music sharing across a network (instead of peer-to-peer like the current Zune) and "branding it as part of the Zune ecosystem, from the brown color through the interface… as a response to Apple's iPhone." Taken at face value, this all sounds fairly awesome, Microsoft, so we'll be watching to see if you can pull a Zune rabbit properly out of your hat this time.

I had a feeling that microsoft was going to do something like this pretty quick. At least they are doing it in style and blowing the iphone out of the water. Lets just wait and see if they can blow the price out of the water too.
I think they should send out a firmware update for all zunes that makes them do a network sharing instead of a p2p share just like this phone is "rumored" to have.
