GPS navigation systems are spreading far and wide, and some are so reasonably priced, almost anyone can afford one. But designers Tan Yong Kai and Priscilla Lui Sik Peng think the whole process of finding your way from one place to another should be easier. That's why they created Dandella, a flower-like design concept that takes the numbers and complication out of GPS navigation and places the entire process into a magic wand that can be used even by small children. The unit's stalk physically bends, pointing the user in the right direction, and as the destination nears, the light on top pulsates.
When you want to recharge its lithium-ion battery or reprogram its coordinates with a PC, you simply place it into a docking cradle that looks like a flower vase. It's a delightful design concept, one that would be suitable in the hands of both a parent and child attending a large outdoor event, where they could easily find each other in a crowd. The design was clever enough to win the Gold Prize in the International Design Competition in Osaka, Japan.
