We've heard of speakers made out of everything from Kevlar to paper, but some engineering students at Michigan Technology University have brought a new material into the mix: snow. As part of a statewide snow-sculpture competition, the MTU geers created a massive array with over 90 drivers — including a dozen 18-inchers for the extreme low end — and 10 amplifiers for a total of 20,000 watts. That puts even JBL's Mount Everest speaker to shame.
Since the students used non-snow elements in the speaker, they were disqualified from winning the competition. They did succeed in their goal of "saturating the county with Rock," though — at least until it warmed up a bit.
