70-foot SkyWalk being built over the Grand Canyon

skywalktimes.jpg

See that picture? Those are some of the ballsiest construction workers around, sticking out 70 feet over the edge of the Grand Canyon to install a glass walkway that'll allow visitors to have great views and confront their crippling fear of heights. The SkyWalk is on the Hualapai Indian Reservation and is to be comprised of a million pounds of steel and 90 tons of tempered glass, glass that will need to be cleaned of vomit quite often I imagine.

This is awesome yet terrible at the same time. It's awesome because you'll get to walk 70 feet off the edge of the Grand Canyon and look straight down, but also kind of terrible because I'm sure this is going to be a total eyesore and will really hurt the natural image of the canyon. Oh well, progress is progress I guess.

look at the architects photo rendering ... I actually think it looks quite nice and fits in with the natural surroundings better than most projects of this nature

I read about this a year ago in Popsci...it looked cool then, and still looks cool. Glad to see progress is still being made.

and I think it looks great...I don think it will be an eye soar...there doing there best so its not...like painting the building the same sandy color...and making the "U" with a lot of glass.

I'm sure it will be much much cheaper then a helicopter ride through it.....although...I (someday) would like to experience both.

There is "Absolutely No WAY" you would get me out on that thing...

Okay, I'm confused. Yes, I see the picture. But where exactly does the ballsiness of the workers come into play? They're all of six feet off the ground. If they lean too far out and fall, the worst they'll suffer is a sprained ankle if that. I don't know, Maybe I'm imagining the ground six feet below the boom, There are no cables strewn across it, No man standing there, No ladder propped up.....
