Drunk drivers beware: your car will soon be smart enough to tell that you've been hitting the Zima and won't let you endanger yourself or others in the near future. Toyota is working on an elaborate system to gauge whether or not a driver is soused, done by detecting drunkenness via palmsweat through the steering wheel, an iris camera, and an "abnormal steering" sensor.
Unless this becomes some sort of mandatory option I can't fathom why anyone would pay for what is sure to be a multi-thousand dollar option like this. If you never drink and drive it would be pointless to have, and if you do you don't want your Camry talking back when you're trying to do your thing. This seems like something California would force their residents to buy, but I can't see it becoming a nationwide sensation. Time will tell.
