Is a toaster a piece of personal electronics? Only if you squint. But who cares? We can't get enough of them. This week brings us two new concept toaster designs forecasting how we might brown our bread in the future. The first is the Sunrise Wall Mounted Toaster, a machine that hangs on your wall and imitates the sun. Designed especially for kitchens without windows, this toaster becomes brighter as the toasting progresses, shining brightest when the toast is done. Someday you, too, will be able to sleep and wake by the light of your toast.
Check out an even wackier take on browning bread after the jump.

Next is the "Glide" or Toast Automatica. This design won first place in the MACEF "Ceramics for Breakfast" competition. Much like the proposed Rollertoaster, this appliance resembles nothing so much as a paper shredder, taking bread in one side and feeding out toast on the other. A few differences, though: it's vertical, has a neat toast rack, and, of course, is made of ceramic.
Even if you only have the "old fashioned" pop-up version at home, you can try these toast-based recipes while you wait for these concepts to be mass produced.
