PS3 to get even better at taking your money with add-on credit card reader

ps3-edy.jpg

If there's anything Sony is really good at, it's devising new ways to take your money. The new PS3 firmware that was released this morning, version 1.5, includes support for swiping your credit card right into your console. Yes, video game consoles have gotten so nickel and dimey that it makes sense to have a credit card reader built right in. What the hell is going on?

Luckily for my blood pressure, this update is Japan only… for now. If it catches on there you can be damned sure that Sony won't hesitate before trying to sell us this new "feature." Here's an idea, Sony: let people buy games and enjoy them without having to constantly pay extra. You never had to pay for extra levels in Super Mario World, after all.

Unbelievable, congrates Sony on cementing the X-Box as the only upgraded console I would buy now.

Wow knocky a japanese only credit card reader was the only reason standing between you and an xbox360.

Yeah, I'll believe that.

Wow what a stupid ******* article.

You don't swipe the card in your PS3, it's a special card reader option you can get for your PS3, reason being that this new card type is popular in Japan right now.

Also it IS in the US PS3 update. The PS3 updates are the same in each region, so yes its been added to the US PS3, but no one is going to care since the US doesn't really use these yet.

Everything about is optional, to allow people to pay for their content on the Playstation store. The whole tone of this article is ******* pathetic.

I'm not sure how successful that addition will be in Japan. Beside highly tourist heavy areas like Tokyo, Japan is mainly a cash economy. Most transactions are done in cash not credit cards. It was something I had to get used to when I lived there a year ago.

This article is crap. There isn't a single game on the PS3 that has downloadable content you have to pay for. The extra constumes in Genji? Free. Extra MP levels for Resistance? Free. Adam Frucci is a fool.
