Oshkosh creates gigantic hybrid truck for the Army

oshkosh.jpgHere's a riddle for you: is an electric vehicle really electric if it generates electricity via an onboard diesel engine? Truck manufacturer Oshkosh seems to think so, as that's exactly how their new HEMTT A3 runs. I'm not so sure.

It's got electric motors driving all eight of its wheels, but the diesel engine and generator on board makes it seem like it's just gas powered via proxy. Technically, it's a hybrid, but Oshkosh says it's a new system called ProPulse. Whatever, dudes. It's been commissioned by the Army and will soon be tested on the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Look for this electric/hybrid/ProPulse/whatever vehicle to roll on into the war on terror in the near future.
