

On the heels of Apple's iPhone bombshell, Motorola is quietly taking the wraps off its own new music phone, the MOTORIZR Z6. Although the phone is optimized to operate in conjunction with MTV's Urge music store, the Z6 can play tracks downloaded from any pay-per-track or PlaysForSure subscription site, as well as ripped MP3 and ACC files.
The handsome quad-band GSM EDGE slider uses an open-source Linux Java operating system that the company says is likely to be the foundation for all future multimedia phones. Inside there's 60 MB of user memory and a microSD slot boosts the storage another 2 GB, and all relevant data is displayed on a crisp and bright 2.2-inch LCD. It's due in April in Asia, in the fall in the U.S., likely from Cingular.
