It's tough to impress me, but iriver did it with its Unit 2. The company calls this slick stereo minisystem the Unit 2 because it hasn't thought of a name for it yet. The front LCD pops off to become a portable media player with a 7-inch screen and a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels (pretty good), which kind of makes the stereo unit more of a rocking docking station.
I heard it in action, and the sound was excellent. It plays CD, DVD, all kinds of music/photo/video files, even cable TV via the connectors on the back. Other highlights include a remote control and GPS — plus it's a phone! The player has 30 GB of storage onboard with SD slots to increase memory. And that's not all: you also get integrated Wi-Fi, Internet radio, streaming and download services. The launch date and price are still unknowns, but assuming the price is right, I'll buy it.
