Imagine a video game so lifelike that you're unable to distinguish it from reality. A virtual reality that totally immerses you in the action. Sorry — that technology doesn't exist, at least not yet. Meanwhile there is the Philips amBX. The amBX, loosely associated with their Ambilight displays and Ambisound speakers, is strictly for hardcore gamers. This total gaming system interfaces with an amBX-enabled video game (only a few titles, such as Broken Sword — Angel of Death are available now) and flashes a 16,000,000-color display with the included lighting system, blows air at you with two desktop fans, shakes you with a robust subwoofer with dynamic bass boost, and electrocutes you to death with two wrist rumblers.
Just kidding about that last part, although the included wrist rumblers do create quite an interesting experience. If the overall effect is anything near the demo at CES (performed by an XXXL version of the desktop system), the amBX definitely hypes up the action by adding extra sensory overload to an enabled game. You can get the system for $199 for a starter kit to $399 premium version with all the bells, whistles, fans, and wrist rumblers.
