Hot new accessory for Windows Vista: a handbag?

vista_sideshow_bag.jpg

Eleksen, maker of the technology in Kenpo's iPod jackets and that flexible keyboard, is opening new doors for its fabric-interface technology. Or rather, new Windows. The company's Wearable Display Module, which can be sewn into a sack or handbag, is a mini LCD and control pad for Windows Vista's SideShow feature. The idea is that you can have your laptop inside, plugged into the USB port, and still be able to check your e-mail on the external 2.5-inch LCD. The module includes a 7-button fabric keypad and 1 GB of storage.

The laptop bag Eleksen showed off at CES was a prototype — the company licenses its technology to other parties to integrate into their products — though as manufacturers place orders, SideShow handbags could be in production by summer for about $250. If you don't mind broadcasting your e-mail alerts to the world, it's a great idea. But that had better be one durable LCD.

Enjoy some video of the prototype SideShow bag after the jump.
