What is it about European soccer fans? It seems to me like they're all nice people until they get into a stadium, at which point they turn into violent animals hellbent on smashing the face of anyone who isn't a fan of their team. Well, Amsterdam, a city not exactly known for promoting responsible behavior, has had enough of the hooligans and plans to do their best to keep things civil.
They're installing fingerprint scanners outside Amsterdam Arena to keep out known rabble-rousers, keeping a database of the prints of those fans who have smashed bottles on other fans' heads in the past. They hope to keep people on their best behavior with this, and if it succeeds should appear at other soccer stadiums around Europe. I guess it could come over here, but do we really need it? American football is just more… civilized.
