Apparently the next big thing in high-tech auto design are systems that compensate for your dangerous ineptitude behind the wheel. To be fair, auto accidents are far too frequent, and anything that will keep you from rear-ending that minivan full of children because you're trying to take the lid off your cup of coffee is a good thing. But it's gotta be at least a bit emasculating to you proudly safe drivers out there.
But hey, safety first! Put your pride to the side, will ya? Volvo is working on their "City Safety" program, a combo of sensors and a computer that gauge how far you are from the person in front of you at slow speeds and activates the brakes automatically when an accident is imminent. Since 75% of all accidents happen when people are driving at less than 20 mph, it should do a good job of cutting down on aloof-driver caused fender-benders.

I wouldn't get it...because cause then it would mean I couldn't tailgate, to piss off the people that pissed me off.
That would suck having a system like this designed for highway speeds...what if your driving alond goind 75mph and it has a glitch and thinks a car it right in front of you..."all the sudden it swerves into the ditch slamming on the breaks until to you smash into a road sign".....ahhhh, no thanks volvo.

Hummm... I might try that, tailgate the person who tailgated me for the last 5 miles and finnaly decides to pass me.
And I wouldn't worry about a glitch, if Volvo is so safty contious they would work out every bug possible before releasing it to the public (hopefully).
