TuneView remote control is an iPod simulator

real_tuneview.jpg

Although there's certainly no shortage of iPod docks for connecting to your TV or stereo, Keyspan's TuneView jumps to the front of the line by including a handy LCD screen right on the remote control. Announced last winter and finally finding its way to stores, the TuneView remote lets you browse your iPod as if it were in your hand. How is such pretend-Podding possible? It's equipped with two-way RF communication that relays all your menus, playlists, and song titles (or in tech parlance, the "metadata") right to the screen. That same RF tech even lets you do it through walls. Nice.

The TuneView dock welcomes all 4G and 5G iPods as well as nanos and minis, and connects to your system through line-level stereo and S-video outputs. Just pop a pair of AAs into the remote and you're laffin' — though we kind of wish it has a clickwheel like the iPod's (probably some patent issues there). It may not be as elegant at Belkin's TuneStage nano, but the TuneView is more flexible and has better range (since it uses RF and not Bluetooth). You can buy it online now for $180 or so.
