Imaginary Hummer wins green award for algae car, real Hummers still get 8 mpg

gm_green_hummer.jpgGM's design for an environmentally friendly Hummer (called the Hummer O2) won The Los Angeles Auto Show's 2007 design challenge award yesterday. The concept car's roof opens to become a propeller-like canopy full of algae. The idea is that the algae absorb sunlight and therefore clean the air via photosynthesis. Right.

Fortunately, this announcement didn't seem to convince anyone that GM actually cares about the environment. GM may have been able to hire somebody who knows how to get fancy with 3D imaging software, but it stills sell one of the least fuel-efficient cars on the planet. In fact, the movie Who Killed the Electric Car asserts that GM's purchase of the Hummer brand was one factor that led it to stop manufacturing the EV1, the company's first electric vehicle.

Though GM is almost certain never to manufacture the Hummer O2, we wish that it at least would make small ones to include in Happy Meals.

STOP DESTROYING THE HUMMER!

When the Humvee began its life in the military, people loved it, and so they made it civilianized, and sold over 12,000 of them...which is pretty good considering they were like 100 grand a pop. The the H2 came out...they basically wanted a more "normal" looking SUV, but still have a good look to not tarnish the Hummer name, its sold good to...at around 50 grand a pop. The still under MPG pressure, they made the H3 even smaller, it still has the hummer look to it, but it was poorly designed, when I test drove one I hated it,when you looked through the rear view mirror the backglass looked tiny...and when you pull up to a stop light...You Cant See The Light, because the windshield is low and wide. Also the pillars are HUGE, you'd swear this thing was a roll cage, there way to bulky and help block your field of vision quiet abit. But the thing they toted was its 20mpg on the highway...which in and of itself isn't something to brag about.

And Now there showing off this!!!
This car looks like utter crap, the designers should be fired, and kicked in the head.
