Flybook is an 'innovative' laptop that actually innovates

flybook_vm.jpg

The best thing about following gadgets and technology as closely as I do is getting surprised by simple innovations. There are so many products out there, so many "upgrades" and "breakthroughs" that are anything but, that it's refreshing to find something that actually innovates greatly on a product we're all used to seeing on a regular basis.

Today's example: the Flybook VM from Dialogue. What initially looks like a run-of-the-mill laptop actually has a screen that lifts up onto a built-in stand, allowing you to type at a table with better posture and fit your computer on those blasted tiny tray tables on airplanes. While this particular model is a bit pricey at $2,878, it's more the design than this particular computer that's exciting. With any luck we'll start to see this form in many other computers from other brands, as it just makes so much damned sense. If you've just got to be the first one on the block to have one of these puppies, the Flybook VM will be available on the 20th, with preorders being accepted now.

Personally, for the money, I would much rather have the M2010.
