You know how sometimes you go to get ice from the freezer and it's all clumped together? Or other times it's all fuzzy and gross? Well, that's because you left it in there too long without using it. If your freezer wasn't such an idiot it wouldn't produce all that ice when you only use it for one glass of scotch on the rocks per night.
Freezers may be getting smarter in the near future thanks to a group of smartie-pants college kids. They went ahead and designed a system that pays attention to how much ice you use, producing only how much you need. If you're planning a party or something and need to up the ice production you can certainly do that as well. It's a pretty simple and smart design on the part of the whippersnappers, and it's likely that Whirlpool will profit handily from this little project. Better get used to not getting what you deserve for your hard work, kids. Now that's education.

Can someone please answer for me, why, the ice you get from convenience stores(small clear cubes), doesnt clump together in coolers? Ice from home always does. This has givin my husband an obcessive-compulsive disorder over ice!!! We have a $1000 fridge, with ice dispenser(cubed or crushed), which i bought because he used so much ice. He refuses to use it, due to the fact that it all turns to a clump and you cant even get the pop out. What's the reason for this, when the ice from convenience stores NEVER does this?
