Another week, another slim smartphone. The latest emaciated handheld is the Samsung BlackJack, which we'll give an 8.2 in its qualifying round for name coolness, although it's product number is far less sexy: SGH-i607. Available in the U.S. from Cingular, it's a mere half-inch thick with a full QWERTY keyboard, a 320 x 240-pixel screen, and a 1.3-megapixel camera. Like the Motorola Q, the BlackJack uses Windows Mobile 5.0 for its operating system, and one-handed Web browsing is said to be pretty easy on it with the side-mounted scroll wheel and back button.
Bluetooth 2.0 is onboard for relaying calls and music to a headset, but there's no Wi-Fi. Battery life is rated at 11 days of standby time or 5.5 hours of talk, but there are some early reports that those numbers may be optimistic. Lots to choose from in this category now, kids, and the $200 asking price for the BlackJack (as long as you slip a two-year ring on Cingular's finger) seems to be the going rate. 'Tis a truly wondrous age….
