Color-changing LED balls: for when you need Zen

LED_balls.jpg

As long as we're talking about lighting, here's a fun accessory from Japan that's sure to perplex your neighbors across the street: a glowing LED ball that changes color depending on ambient sound. The "balloon" light comes in two sizes: the 8-inch-diameter AIL-B120 and the 12-inch AIL-B130 for you big boys. Apparently they're supposed to add a "Zen atmosphere" to your place, although that's probably only when you're listening to Enya. Personally, I'd love to see what they do when you've got Metallica ripping out of your stereo at full volume. And what would happen if you hook up your Buddha Machine to one of the balls? It might result in a critical mass of Zen, possibly starting a chain reaction that destabilizes ambient light everywhere! Good thing the balls probably won't ever make it to our shores, lest we throw caution to the wind and perform such high-risk experiments. Clear your mind of worry…

My guess is that if you "feed" the zen balls Metallica, they would "die". Put on 'One' and watch them go from a few happy colors to blood red and then just about when it hits the "darkness, imprisoning me" part of the song it goes black and stays that way. What color would best describe "the pain, the pain!"? Poor little zen ball.
