There really isn't a single sound that we hear on a regular basis that couldn't be improved with a little help from our good friend the MP3. Take the doorbell, for example. Why settle for a boring "ding-dong" every time a Jehovah's Witness shows up when instead you can be roused from your recliner by a snippet of Like a Virgin? Why, you'd be pressing your own doorbell just to hear it!
Well quit dreaming, 'cause the future is now. The DoorLinX by Netstreams is due to hit stores soon, and it can hold any MP3 file up to 500 kb in size. While that's cool and all, it seems that loading it up may either be a one-time thing or at least a pretty big pain to get done. Why not create a doorbell accessible via your home network? Stick some Wi-Fi in there and use it as a wireless extender for the front of the house as well. That way you could load it up anytime, and even program different songs for different times of the day, having different songs for parties and deliveries. Or am I going overboard here? It is just a doorbell after all. But why go halfway to nerdtown when you could go riding down main street in a ticker tape parade?
