Think you're cool, Mr. Art Critic? Feeling nice and secure in your high-and-mighty ivory tower, getting paid to tear down other people's work? Well you've been rendered obsolete. The Art-O-Meter is here to take over, showing us all we need to know about great works of art on its four-line LCD. And "all we need to know" is apparently the average time a person spends in front of a painting or sculpture, which this gadget would be mounted beside. When you step in front of the Art-O-Meter, itself an art project from Marcelo Coelho, its motion detector will activate a timer and keep a record of how long you spent pontificating. Comparing how much time people spend in front of an individual piece with the duration of the entire exhibition, the AOM even assigns each work a star rating — sort of like Digg.com for art. Why stop there, Marcello — why not record the spots of the painting that hold an observer's gaze the most? We'd love to give our opinion of the Art-O-Meter, but we think Robin Williams did a much better job in Dead Poets Society.
