PlayStation 3 pre-orders selling for $1,200 on eBay

ps3ebay.jpg

If you were worried you would have to go on eBay and spend over $1,000 to get a PlayStation 3 once it came out, don't worry. You can just go on eBay now and spend over $1,000 on a PS3 pre-order and save yourself the hassle. Yes, it's officially gotten out of control already, with many major retailers selling out of their pre-orders within minutes last week and people already giving up on getting one the day they come out. There have been nearly a dozen auctions on eBay successfully completing at an average of $1,200 — some as high as $1,500. For a pre-order! Wii pre-orders are on there too, but they seem to be clocking in at under $500 a piece. Still somewhat nuts, but not as completely insane as $1,200. Well, what are you waiting for? Your kid won't love you as much if they don't find a PlayStation 3 under the tree this holiday season, so you'd better get one so they don't go back to their boarding school mad at you.

Actually Wii sales on ebay had been reaching $700 until they were removed. I received an email directly from ebay stating :
Due to the high demand and limited supply of this item we are taking stronger measures to protect both buyers and sellers in the eBay community. Currently, eBay is not permitting Pre-Sale of this item, and sellers who list it on eBay must have physical possession of the products at time of listing.
I am not sure if they are going to take the same approach with the PS3s but I would imagine they might.

eBay is actually ripping down all auctions for PS3 and Wii pre-sales, and worse:
http://forums.ebay.com/db2/thread.jspa?threadID=1000365460&start=200

"I got a call today from eBay and PayPal (3-way cal) about my emails (thank Mioka)and this forum post. I let 'em have it good, hopefully they will discuss it with senior management as promised.

Then they told me that the one sale of a PS3 that I had sold before they stopped them had to be refunded! They gave me 7 days to decide on this, or they would call me back.

There are and have never been any restrictions on my accounts due to this situation.

Here's where it gets fun, I tried to refund the gbuyer his money and I got "You cannot refund this payment because the recipient is currently unable to receive money."
I contaced the buyer and he could not log into his PayPal account! For buying the console!

The buyer contacted PayPal about it, and they said they would reopen his account in 14 days!

Yahoo auctions are free now, hmmm... "

$1500 is actually a low price. The average price was around $2k.

eBay is ripping these down because of the 30day pre-order rule.

In response, I have created a site called www.consoleconnector.com where you can list your pre-sale items for free or simply link to your auction.

Good luck on the refund deal Wiinii.
