Pioneer sticks home theater in your car, gets you into an accident

pioneer car entertainment

Don't people ever worry about getting distracted while driving? If you happened to install one of Pioneer's new car entertainment systems, you'd have a hard time keeping your eyes on the road. Featuring a built-in 30-GB hard drive, a 7-inch LCD screen, a DVD player, and GPS, the systems are basically like a mini home-entertainment system for your dashboard. There's even an optional TV tuner! Who could possibly pay attention to rush hour when The Bachelor is on? You can rip CDs to the hard disk to save for later, although it saves the songs in Atrac3 format, whatever that may be. I'm not sure about saving TV shows to the disk, but I doubt that DVR capabilities are included. And seriously, do you need a DVR in your car? I'll answer that for you: you don't. This is slated to hit the shores of Japan come October, with no word on pricing or availability stateside.

Best. Headline. Ever.

The 3d overview showing in the monitor looks pretty nifty. However Japan is a much smaller place than the US so I doubt they would go around mapping every building here if it ever showed up for sale in the States. Great post! Busy news day for you guys...

Atrac3 format is a proprietary Sony compression format similar to .mp3. However the Atrac3 compression allows a song to have the same audio quality as a mp3 but with a smaller file size. Hence, more songs per given space.
