There are plenty of headphones out there with noise canceling technology; headphones that analyze the sound of your surroundings and then create sound to nullify it and make your music easier to hear at lower volumes. But what about headphones that listen to the sound of your surroundings and then use it to change what you're listening to? Those are a bit harder to find. Ambient Addition is a prototype by Noah Vawter are headphones that take the sound of your environment and turns it into musical ambient soundscapes, getting you more in touch with your surroundings rather than more isolated from them. It may mute arrhythmic or harsh sounds while highlighting more subtle sounds, changing how you perceive the sounds you hear every day. In a word, it's freaking awesome. Ambient Addition is just a prototype, but if you're in NYC you can check it out at the Dorkbot-NYC meeting on Wednesday night.
