The last time I made chocolate chip cookies I learned a hard lesson: there's a big difference between a regular and a heaping teaspoon of salt. So much for intuitive cooking. Fortunately, the design team of Jess Griffin and Jim Termeer has found a way to join basic food preparation with technology: they've created a cutting board that possesses an integrated scale embedded within an clearly defined surface area. Now you can cut and measure your ingredients on the same tool, lessening preparation and cleanup time. The board itself measures 10"x15" and displays the weight of your ingredients (in grams) in bold red, electric ink text. While amateur chefs probably don't need this kind of exactitude for cooking their Sunday morning pancakes, it could certainly be useful for those more demanding, precise recipes that always seem out of reach. Maybe now I can take another run at those cookies.
