Sony wants to beat the iPod so badly, it's almost cute. They've released yet another incarnation of their beaten-like-a-dead-horse Walkman line, this time directly going after the new iPod + Nike setup that we liked so much. The test tube shaped Walkman NW-S200 is designed to strap on your arm and will continue to function no matter how much you sweat on it. It has the ability to count your steps, distance traveled, and calories burned during your morning jog, and has a Music Pacer feature that chooses tunes that sync up with the beat of your run. You can also give it a solid shake to set it to shuffle, taking the guesswork out of pushing little buttons with your big, sweaty fingers. Boy, a shake-to-shuffle feature is the one thing that has kept all the other music players from beating the iPod! Finally, someone has cracked Apple's armor! The NW-S200 will hit shelves in Europe this September, and later on when they arrive here in the states expect to pay $120 for the 1GB version and $150 for the 2GB.

Unfortunately it doesn't have a screen to view tracks on.
However, the cool thing is that charging it for only 3 minutes will give you 3 hours of playback time. A full 45 minute charge will give you 18 hours. It has 3 cool metallic colors - black, pink and silver. And it will play other compressed formats besides mp3 - ATRAC, wma, non DRM, and AAC non DRM.
