Something a lot of speaker manufacturers will complain about these days is that even though folks will lay down a couple of Gs for a sleek flat-panel TV, they'll spend only a tenth of that on speakers to go with it. Will a sleek home theater system with a modern design — say, KEF's KHT5005.2 — persuade anyone to spend a little more on sound? Let's see… it definitely looks as slick as any flat panel, with the speakers coming finished in black or silver to match your set. Plus it features an upgraded version of KEF's Uni-Q speaker drivers, which mount the tweeter in the center of the midrange/bass cone, said to help expand the "sweet spot" where you hear optimal sound. And hey, just look at that subwoofer: a wicked design that you can mount vertically or horizontally and has decent specs to boot: a 10-inch driver with a 250-watt amplifier — that should make your movie soundtracks go boom. Hot stuff, to be sure, but would you pay $2,000 for it? I'm sure a few will, but let's get real, KEF — if you really want to move this rig, it should cost half that.
