Bose announced an upgrade to their Acoustic Wave music system yesterday, the brilliantly named Acoustic Wave music system II. A compact and simple setup that plays CDs and AM/FM radio, the Acoustic Wave sounds flat-out great. It really fills the room and sounds pretty remarkable at high volumes, especially considering how small the thing is. It has an auxiliary input for things like MP3 players, but if you own an iPod, Bose is hoping you're willing to part with an extra $179 for a stand that plugs in an a remote that will control it, rather than letting your little golden tablet just lay on a table with an ugly headphone cable plugged into it. $179 sounds like a lot for a simple iPod dock you say? Well, you haven't heard how much the thing it plugs into is: $1,079. Yes, nearly $1,100 for a glorified boombox, albeit a very, very nice sounding one. For a standalone audio player that won't do anything video related because that'll add too many buttons to the remote, the price is just ludicrous. Bose is really cornering the market of audio products for rich guys who want brain-dead simple audio products. If you are one of said rich guys, get that platinum card ready for this thing, as it hits store shelves September 7th.
