Google adds public domain works to book search

google book search

Google has just added complete books in the public domain to its Google Book Search. Now, any book that is out of copyright can be downloaded in full form as a PDF, including masterpieces by Shakespeare, Dante, and Cervantes. While there are still loads of battles going on over whether or not Google has the right to index books that are still within their copyright, this is a wonderful service to people interested in exploring and discovering older works. Hopefully modern authors will soon come to their senses and realize that allowing Google to index their works will allow more people to discover them, as being able to search through entire books is a great way to explore and try books you've never seen before and then go out and buy them. After all, it's nice to have PDF copies of books as a reference, but no one wants to read through 300 pages on their computer screen when they could just sit in an easy chair with a paperback.
