As electronics manufacturers try to remove cables from our lives completely, it'll only be a matter of time before cameras lose their wired leashes. The EyeFi is looking to make that happen sooner rather than later. What looks like an unassuming SD memory card actually also holds a tiny wireless transmitter, hooking your camera up to any WiFi hotspot that's around. While there have already been a couple of cameras with this feature built-in, they were poorly reviewed and didn't live up to the hype. The EyeFi promises to turn any camera into a wireless camera, allowing you to send photos to yourself, friends, or even directly to your Flickr account without the aid of a computer. The cards also will be able to hold up to 1 GB of photos, which should be plenty for your next family vacation. There's also the possibility that these could work in PDAs that take an SD card, although details on that feature are scant. There's no pricing info available as of yet, but a public beta is due to begin in the fall for these, so expect to see them on the market early next year.

It is amazing how small technology is getting. I didn't even know you could have wifi with a simple xd card, but do an ebay search for sd wifi and you will find houndreds of listings. Unfortunately they don't have built in storage and they are slightly larger than regular sd cards. This card will be a large step in the right direction.
Pretty soon everything (even operating systems I imagine) will be wirelessly web based from anywhere in the world. I give it 10 years before personal hard drives are obsolete because they are simply unpractical....
