When you've gotta go, you've gotta go, but that doesn't mean you can't go in style. Dissatisfied with the look of traditional rigid coffins, Andreas Spiegel took it upon himself to bring some new life to death with this oval-shaped design. Dubbed the Cocoon, the modern casket isn't just a curved container available in 14 different colors — it's also eco-friendly, made out of a biodegradable soybean-based resin with a water-based varnish, meaning the enclosure will decompose within 10 to 15 years after burial. Resting in a Cocoon will run you about $3,500, although it's only available in Europe right now, but Spiegel's company, Uono, is currently looking for a U.S. distributor. And hey, Trekkies, this is probably as close as you're going to get to finding something to re-enact the photon torpedo casket from Spock's funeral. Y'know, in case you were looking.

Hmmm, if it was a Little Flatter in the middle and maybe a color nearer white it could almost look like the Torpedo that Star Trek Launched Spock in near the end of "The Wrath of Khan"...

At first glance, Andreas Spiegel's Death Cocoon looks more like some sort of robotic roach pellet, but that could just be my imagination.
Now if someone would come up with a coffin that looks like a Goa'uld sarcophagus, I'd definitely want to go that route...just, not anytime soon.
