As a skier, I only used my iPod while going down the slopes once. It was cool to listen to music while skiing, but I also felt like being unable to hear the people around me was somewhat dangerous and disconcerting, so I took the headphones out. Apparently it isn't that dangerous, because Burton and Motorola have teamed up to release the second generation of their series of wearable Bluetooth-enabled music devices for snowboarders and skiers. A built-in controller in a jacket sleeve will be able to control music from your cell phone and stream it to headphones in your helmet, although by the looks of those buttons using them with gloved fingers will be an exercise in frustration. You can also make calls through the headphones, although I imagine you'll want to save those for when you're on the lift. While I personally will stick to skiing without any digital distractions, I know how much snowboarders like to be extreme — and there's nothing more extreme than Bluetooth. The apparel will be available at Burton retailers later this month.
