Whenever my commando squad is on a night mission and it's time to report back to CENTCOM, my CO often complains that the video quality coming from my MacBook Pro's iSight cam is just too grainy. Promising to keep those 3:00 a.m. mission briefings looking good, the Logitech QuickCam Ultra Vision is a webcam with optics superior to typical models. Not only are most of the lenses made of glass instead of plastic, but the cam has a larger aperture (f/1.6 for you shutterbugs out there) to let in more light when you're in a shady situation. It's even said to capture "high-definition" video, although the specs page says the resolution maxes out at 640 x 480 pixels at 30 frames per second, which, while pretty good for a webcam, is a far cry from HD. Still pics get 1.3 megapixels (4 MP with interpolation), and they're super easy to take — just press the button on the side. The QuickCam Ultra Vision will be ready for duty, connecting to the USB 2.0 ports on your PC (military issue or otherwise), next month for $130.
