Lexmark's CD-burning printer shuns PCs

lexmark.jpg

It's not often that a printer can claim to have a new and unexpected twist, but the Lexmark P450 can. Featuring a built-in CD burner, it has the ability to create photo CDs directly from your camera, memory cards, or USB thumb drives. It's a good thing, too, as it doesn't even have the ability to hook up to a computer — it's a totally standalone unit. It can also connect to your TV and create slideshows of your photos, although leaving your printer close enough to your TV to have it hooked up all the time doesn't seem terribly logical. In any case, the photo printer boasts a 2.4-inch color screen and an ease of use that comes with the territory of being totally independent: no cables and no installation discs required. If you're looking for an easy way to back up and print your photos and don't want to mess with a pesky PC, the P450 should be right up your alley. It's available now for $200.
