Google brings traffic maps to cell phones

phone.pngIf you're not a rich guy with fancy GPS navigation and some built-in computer analyzing traffic in your new Benz, don't worry. Google has just announced yet another feature for its Maps service: GPS traffic information for anyone without GPS, sending maps with live traffic data to cell phones — no charge. Simply point your mobile browser to google.com/gmm and the site will not only give you driving directions, but also highlight the route with red, orange, yellow, and green lines to indicate the level of congestion. The service is free, but any charges you pay for surfing the Web on your phone will still apply. This isn't quite Japan's GPS phone map service, but hey, it's free and a step in the right direction.
