Making free Internet phone calls with Skype can be a great thing, but not so much if you have to be tethered to your PC to do the dialing. Finally there is a Skype phone on the way that will let you get a bit more mobile. The Belkin Wi-Fi Phone for Skype, which will be available in August, will let you place free, unlimited domestic and international calls over the Internet to other Skype users without needing to be connected your PC. The Wi-Fi Phone, which will retail for $190 and looks much like a traditional cellular mobile phone, will be able to connect to various Wi-Fi hotspots around the world, letting you access your Skype account while enjoying an overpriced latte at Starbucks. Of course it won't allow the same freedom of a cellular mobile phone since you'll still have to be near your Wi-Fi network or find a free public hotspot, but you can't really put a price on smugly knowing you're making free calls while other suckers pay Verizon for the same service.
