2second tent: pitched before it hits the ground

2second.jpg

Pitching a tent is a pain, especially after a long day of hiking and being without your precious electricity. Outdoor-goods peddler Quechua has come up with a solution for people who like camping except for all that work and stuff: the 2second tent. As in that's how long it takes to set up. Yes, 2 seconds; simply toss the folded-up tent in the air, and by the time it hits the ground, it's pitched. All you have to do then is attach it to the ground with tent pegs so it doesn't blow away or anything. It doesn't get much easier than that, now does it? The tent also boasts simplicity in coming down, so it may take longer than two seconds to pack up, but you won't be there all day. Available in two- or three-person sizes, the 2second tent is small, light, and transportable, which seems to cover all the bases of a quality tent (other than protecting you from the elements and such). They're available online now and range in price from about $65 to about $83.

WOW! Hello 1993. Hasn't anyone ever heard of the "Pop-Tent?" Seriously--I've suprised these people haven't been sued already.

The term is "pup tent" (not pop tent), and is nothing like this. Pup tents have been around for centuries, and the term applied to the upside down V shaped tents.

There are "pop up tents" - but those aren't "fling em and they're set up" - they're the dome style tents which are just a whole lot easier to set up than tents of the say a few decades ago.

Hi Trump, you're right on with that. The earlier version was advertised seemingly everywhere, including the Sunday supplements in newspapers.

Zoobert, you haven't roughed it much, have you? :} Yes, the "pup" tent is an old reliable, but there indeed was a "Pop-Up" tent.

The design seems to come and in out of notoriety, like the swampy tides of "quick 'n easy" consumerism. It seems to be the "Vega-A-Matic" of camping supplies.

As for me, I bought myself real tents, ones I knew would ride out tough storms and high winds.

But that's another story....!

I remember pop-tents when I was in Boy Scouts. They weren't that great. This thing is awesome though. It's true that you just fling it in the air and it opens and lands on it's bottom ready for use. You can stake it down but I've found that once I have my battery powered aerobed in it and gear it doesn't go anywhere. I pasted the URL for the 2-Second Tent in here but I'll do it again: http://www.decathlontent.com. This is a pretty cool site; lots of video of the tent being tested by the BBC, some video on how to open it and close it (in less than a minute or two usually), instructions, specs, even a bunch of camping tips. I'm taking my 2-Second Tent camping up on the Saco River in Maine. I'll be sipping a beer by the campfire before my friends even have theirs unpacked!
Well, ciao everyone, keep your fingers crossed that Battlestar Galactica is as good in the upcoming season as it was last season. What a cliff hanger huh?

p.s. I forgot you can also but the 2 second tent on the web site. I think it's like $70, not sure about the shipping. I bought mine in one of Decathlon's stores.
