Toshiba wants to take down the iPod in a bad way, and they hope the one-two punch of the new gigabeat S and its partnership with movie-downloading service Vongo will help them do it. Coming in both 30-GB and 60-GB versions, the S features a 2.4-inch screen for viewing your fresh, legally obtained movies, an FM tuner for the one time you'll have an urge to listen to terrestrial radio before realizing you have 5,000 songs you actually like on the player, and a USB port to transfer all that content over from your computer. Vongo, for its part, will sync itself up to the gigabeat, allowing movies downloaded via either their pay-per-view or subscription services to transfer over for portable viewing. Finally, you can watch Herbie: Fully Loaded on the subway without resorting to piracy. Thanks, Vongo! The gigabeat S is available now for $299 and $399, and Vongo will set you back $9.99 per month or $3.99 per movie.
